1.      DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION PEDAGOGY

 

The Department aims to produce professionally sound, well qualified, and competent            teachers / leaders in the field of Physical Education through a long term training programme by developing competency in cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains in an organized and systematic manner.

 

The department wishes to instill qualities like any other professional to make them ideal teachers / leaders suitable for 21st century. The department attempts to develop future leaders by adopting a democratic approach besides following transparency in day today functioning.

 

Theoretical knowledge, acquisition of skills in different games and sports, specialization in sport, teaching practice (activity and theory) and internship programme are the five main pillars of B.P.Ed (Integrated) course.

 

In Master of Physical Education, main thrust is laid on cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domain where desirable changes are brought systematically by providing most appropriate and relevant experiences. The Department encourages, stimulates, and motivates students to develop an aptitude for research by providing opportunities to undertake research, both basic and advanced, in the realm of Physical Education Pedagogy. Specialization is also offered in a subject and in a sport in cognitive and psychomotor domain respectively.

 

At present, the department offers the following courses:-

 

1. Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed.) – Four Year Integrated Programme
2. Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.) – Four Semester Post Graduate Programme with specialization in Physical Education Pedagogy 

                                   

 

2.      DEPARTMENT OF EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY

 

Exercise Physiology is the study of biological and biochemical processes associated with exercise and overload that affects the underlying function of cells and organ systems in the human body. Exercise physiology is a rapidly evolving field that is becoming increasingly important in the delivery of health care/ wellness and care of sports persons. Exercise physiologists work to prevent or delay the onset of chronic disease in healthy participants or to provide therapeutic or functional benefits to patients with known disease.

 

Research by scientists trained in Exercise Physiology will greatly expanded the understanding of the ways in which exercise affects cell function. Advances in research in Exercise Physiology will provide a foundation for many types of exercises related treatment, rehabilitation and bring improvement in the training of sport persons. The area includes cardiovascular, diabetes, aging, sports and female participation obesity, physiological aspects of extreme sports, disuse atrophy and other ailments too.

 

The department of exercise physiology has been proposed to cater the specialized need of sports person and general population looking for fitness, wellness and highest level of sports performance from the Physiology and Physiology of Exercise perspective.

 

The major thrust will be on producing post graduate students with specialization in exercise physiology. The aim of the department is to prepare qualified professionals at different levels to promote health and quality of life through the use of appropriate physical activity and lifestyle behaviors.

 

At present the department offers the following course:-

 

Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.) - Four semester Post Graduate programme with specialization in Exercise Physiology.

 

3.      DEPARTMENT OF SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY

 

To introduce and familiarize the subject of Sports Psychology to the students of Master’s Degree in Physical Education, so as to understand the dynamics behind this subject and its role in the field of Sports and Exercise. The course shall cover the History, Development (From International Perspective to the National), Theory of Sports and Exercise Psychology in depth. Brief introduction shall be given in the methodological issues, practices etc. Finally emphasis will be given on applicability of this knowledge for further advance programme of sport Psychology.

 

At present the Department offers the following course:-

 

Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.)  - Four Semester Post Graduate Programme with specialization in Sports Psychology.

 

  

4.      Department of Sports Biomechanics

 

The Department of Sports Biomechanics was created in the year 2011-12, in order to cater the need of students in the area of analysis of human movements and sports techniques. The Department offers a two year Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.) course with specialization in Sports Biomechanics and one sports discipline, in addition, the curriculum contains the subjects from other allied areas and research methodology. The stress is laid on the development of in depth knowledge in the area of science of sports techniques and its practical application. The graduates will able to analyze the efficiency of human movements and provide scientific backup in the area of sports techniques.

 

At present the department offers the following course:-

 

Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.) - Four semester Post Graduate programme with specialization in Sports Biomechnics.

 

5.      DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SCIENCES & FITNESS

 

The Department of Health Sciences and Fitness is in existence to support the health needs of the students and staff. The Department aims to disseminate the knowledge and proficiency in health care, fitness, and multidisciplinary approach for the total health and fitness through different courses. The objective is to re-orient the physical education professionals and other graduates in the field of multidimensional health and fitness approaches so as to generate vocational opportunities and placements for them in the health seeking society for the quality of living and fitness.

 

At present the department offers the following course:-

 

1.      Master of Physical Education (M.P.Ed.)– Four Semester Post Graduate Programme with specialization in Health Education

2.      Post Graduate Diploma in Fitness Management – PGDFM (One year)

3.      Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga – PGDY (One year)

 

6.      CENTRE FOR SPORTS COACHING  & MANAGEMENT 

 

The Centre imparts sports coaching to the candidates for developing their competency and enhancing their skills in the field of sports coaching. The Centre working with vision to pursuit of excellence in sports coaching standards, nodal agency in the area of sports coaching and holistic development of an individual. The Centre seeks to provide highly specialized sports coaching courses, which are based on the latest technological and professional developments around the world. The main object is to prepare high quality sport coaches and physical fitness trainers in various games/sports with micro specializations, in order to cater to the ever-increasing demand of our Indian society and to uplift the Indian sport standards.

 

Further, Physical Education and Sports system in India has been challenged as never before and we find shortage of quality sport managers and leaders. This profession can only be blessed with required high quality administrative leadership if definite and positive steps are taken to expand and improve the quality of management. In order to cope up with this complex situation, the Centre offers long and short term courses in Sports Management which will equip the students to pursue careers in sports related services like offering healthy life style, creating new sports products and services, organize sports events and also find themselves in good Sports Management positions.

 

At present, the Centre offers following courses:

 

1.  Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching (PGDSC) (one academic year)

2.  Diploma in Sports Coaching (DSC) (one academic year)

3.  Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Management (PGDSM) (one academic year)

 

 

7.      CENTRE FOR ADVANCED STUDIES

 

The Centre was established in order to cater to the need of research in the area of Physical Education/Sports and Allied areas and to serve as a nodal agency for research in Physical Education & Sports. In addition, the Centre also orients the scholars in utilizing various scientific equipments.         

 

At present, the Centre offers following courses:       

     

1.  Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Physical Education (Regular)

2.  Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physical Education (Regular)
